Youth Workers Workshop – Face to Face project

It’s always amazing to meet new people and challenge yourself to learn, think and accept things may be you knew before or having different perspective of it.

My colleague Anna Chokheli and I are in Villa Olanda, Torino to attend a youth workers’ meeting, the training of the project Face to Face. A great part of the program is meeting our colleagues from different corners, developing cooperation and sharing problems we face in our daily work as youth workers.

Everyday is so different, like presenting organizations, sharing experience and tools we use as youth workers, and visiting local organizations providing support to people in need.

One of the great tools we were introduced to is shadow theater methodologywhich they implemented at school. This methodology itself is very unique and simple. It gives a lot of possibility to work effectively among school youth and supports inclusion.

During our stay, we had opportunity to meet Mr. Renato Galetti from “Liberi dalla violenza” NGO. He talked about the program they provide for men to decrease violence and support them to change their behavior towards violence against women.

A very interesting part is that most of the organizations or associations working in Torino are based on volunteerism. Most of the programs like different services are implemented through the support of volunteers. “It’s part of our culture, we have professionals who dedicate their time and experience to people in need.” It’s always great motivation to see great examples of volunteerism and how people do it in reality.

On the last day we planned an agenda for youth exchange, which will be held in March. We are so excited. It gives seven Georgian youth aged 15-17 to be part of this great program, to travel and learn more on cultural diversity, human rights, stereotypes, etc.
